[ through the murmur she sends him a mental image of a list. a good number of the spellings are definitely wrong, but she's done her best to write phonetically by ear. there are 20 of them. ]
These are all the names I've learned so far. I can associate each with a face through our strange network, if we want to be thorough.
I was guessing around a couple dozen, from the chatter. [ He was pretty close after all, then. ] I'd guess the actual number to be a little higher. Some people may have decided to lay low.
There are certainly more. I haven't spoken to everyone, and I've seen more people than I've spoken to. Still, it's a start. Is there anyone you know that's not already on there?
Yeah. [ It...should be a relief, to have someone around, but -- ]
Really makes me hope I'm wrong about us being dead.
[ He's been going back and forth on whether that's what's happening here or not, but if Nobara is here too, then he'll pray to any god that listens that he's completely off the mark.
He can accept his own death, but if they both just dipped out on Yuji... ]
... I understand. There's someone I miss, but ... I'd rather he's not here. I'd just worry. I don't know if this is of any comfort, but I've never believed we died, coming here.
They're your friends? Let me know if they need anything, won't you?
I'm not nearly as sure as I was when we got here, for what that's worth.
[ Still, between the slim chances he'd have lived through his circumstances, and at least a couple others here who also remembered dying, it's hard to just dismiss the idea. ]
... I'm still of the opinion that we've been taken, but I have no real proof, other than a very strange conversation with that odd woman. What was her name? Espera?
[ she's quiet for a moment, thoughtful. she's replaying their conversation in her head for what is easily the hundredth time, but as before, she comes up empty. ]
... I hate to say it, but I'm really not sure. She did say one thing... I asked her who she was, why this was happening. All she said was, "same as you, though I had prayed it would not come to this." [ she recites it smoothly and clearly, as if she just had this discussion mere hours ago. ]
... if you ask me, I think "something bigger" started before we got here, and we've been swept up in it. If we're caught up in some eventuality she'd been praying wouldn't happen... are we the catalyst, or the result?
I asked her what was coming, too. Her only answer was "The Night."
I don't disagree. I mean more in the sense...if it takes x amount of people in our situation to cause whatever happens, then if they were already at x minus twenty...
[ Like the first victim of a killing spree hoping that at least everyone else in the room might be able to escape it. It's already started, but their being there is a sign that it's going to end a whole lot worse. ]
...well, if all of this is somehow tied to the moon, then that makes sense. Even if it's frustratingly vague. [ Those journal entries some of them have found talking about the "Lunar Anomaly" are going to be important, he's sure. ]
[ But the absolute insistence of the creatures that had swarmed them, and the double whammy of fighting with magic that was just different enough from his own to be awkward, and trying to watch Nobara's back as well as his own... ]
If the bleeding moon isn't at least a part of this "Lunar Anomaly," I'd be very surprised. [ But there's surely plenty to it that they haven't even seen a hint of yet. ]

And?
[ Don't leave him in suspense here...! ]

[ He's not actually bothered, though. ]

You have people here from home, hm?

I tried to reach back, but I wasn't able to get through.

Still. Based on what she said... I have to think we were brought here. She said this place wasn't a punishment, but "a consequence."

I don't know if she's capable of giving straight answers. I did try. She also called me "sibling" when she departed...

What do you make of that?

There's a lot of possible ways to interpret them, and none of them are good. ]
My first thought is that our being here is going to make all of this worse, somehow. Or that we're the trigger for something bigger.

Frustrating is rather understating it, in my opinion. How are we supposed to protect ourselves when all we have are cryptic riddles?
Still, the moon... that reminds me. Do you remember how it was bleeding, in our dream?
That feels more worrisome, now. Not that it wasn't worrisome to begin with...
